Effects of precipitated size of water-soluble amide-containing polymers and pore size of filters on recovery of Pd nanoparticles dispersed in acetone solution including colloidal polymer

When immobilized Pd nanoparticles (Pd NP) are used for the hydrogenation of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), some Pd NP leaks into the reaction medium. This Pd NP is expensive and must be recovered. In this study, Pd NP were recovered from an NBR acetone medium by precipitation with poly N-[2-(dimethylamino)ethyl] methacrylamide (poly(DAEMA)) and filtration. When poly(DAEMA) solution was added to the Pd NP NBR acetone solution, poly(DAEMA) interacted with Pd NP and formed a precipitate by dehydration. The poly(DAEMA) precipitate including trapped Pd NP was completely recovered by filtration through a filter with a pore size of 1 mu m. Poly(acrylamide) solutions of different molecular weights were tested for Pd NP recovery, and those with high molecular weights formed large quantities of precipitates, resulting in low recovery percentages. The concentration and molecular weight of the polymer used for the recovery of Pd NP by nanoprecipitation and filtration must be chosen carefully for optimal recovery. Especially, 40 kDa of PAA and 1 mu m filter pores were suitable for efficient Pd NP recovery.

Preparation and physical properties of intrinsic low-k polyarylene ether nitrile with enhanced thermo-stability

Polyarylene ether nitrile (PEN) random copolymers were prepared from 6AF, BHPF, and 2, 6-dichlorobenzonitrile according to the nucleophilic aromatic substitution polymerization. The chemical structure of PEN random copolymers was characterized by the FT-IR and H-1-NMR spectrum, respectively. The thermal properties of the PEN random copolymers were investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The resulting PEN copolymers have excellent thermal stability with high glass transition temperature (T-g) ranging from 187? to 271? and the 5% weight loss temperature (T-5%) of PEN copolymers greater than 490? in nitrogen atmospheres. Meanwhile, the PEN films have excellent mechanical property, the tensile strength ranges from 55 to 95 MPa. Moreover, the dielectric properties of the PEN random copolymers were investigated by dielectric tests. The dielectric constants (k) and loss tangent (tan delta) of PEN (PEN-6-AF/BHPF100) film is only 2.3 and 0.03 at 1 kHz, respectively. More importantly, the dielectric properties were found to be relatively stable until the T-g, which can be attributed to the existence of BHPF units in the molecular backbone.

Synthesis of Unsymmetrical 3,4-Diaryl-3-pyrrolin-2-ones Utilizing Pyrrole Weinreb Amides

A regiocontrolled synthesis of unsymmetrical 3,4-diaryl-3-pyrrolin-2-ones has been achieved in three steps from 1,2-diaryl-1-nitroethenes with pyrrole-2-carboxamides (pyrrole Weinreb amides) serving as the key linchpin intermediates. Two different methods for the preparation of the requisite nitroalkenes were investigated: (1) modified Henry reaction between arylnitromethanes and arylimines; and (2) Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of 2-aryl-1-bromo-1-nitroethenes with arylboronic acids. Some difficulty was encountered in the preparation of arylnitromethanes, thus leading to the exploration of a cross-coupling strategy that proved more useful. A Barton-Zard pyrrole cyclocondensation reaction between 1,2-diaryl-1-nitroethenes and N-methoxy-N-methyl-2-isocyanoacetamide gave the corresponding pyrrole Weinreb amides, which were then converted into the desired 3-pyrrolin-2-ones in two steps. Overall, this method allowed for the construction of 3,4-diaryl-3-pyrrolin-2-ones with complete regiocontrol of the substituents with respect to the lactam carbonyl. The utility of this synthetic methodology was demonstrated by the preparation of eight unsymmetrical and symmetrical 3,4-diaryl-3-pyrrolin-2-ones including the N-H lactam analogue of the selective COX-II inhibitor, rofecoxib.

Electrolytic partial fluorination of organic compounds. 83. Anodic fluorination of N-substituted pyrroles and its synthetic applications to gem-difluorinated heterocyclic compounds

Anodic fluorination of N-substituted pyrroles was carried out in MeCN containing supporting fluoride salts such as Et3N-nHF (n = 2-5) and Et4NF-4HF with use of platinum electrodes under constant current conditions. Anodic fluorination of N-methyl- and N-p-tosylpyrroles having an electron-withdrawing cyano group proceeded smoothly to provide the corresponding fluorinated products in moderate to excellent yields, while anodic fluorination of N-methylpyrrole devoid of an electron-withdrawing cyano group did not take place and a polymeric product was formed at the anode surface. In sharp contrast to the cases of N-methylpyrroles, even N-p-tosylpyrrole devoid of an electron-withdrawing cyano group underwent anodic fluorination efficiently. Diels-Alder reaction of 5,5-difluoro-1-methyl-3-pyrrolin-2-one (2e) derived from anodic fluorination of 2-cyano-1-methylpyrrole (2a) with various dienes was carried out to provide the cycloaddition products in excellent yields. Furthermore, Michael reaction of 2e with various nucleophiles was also successfully carried out to provide the Michael addition products in good to excellent yields.
