Synthesis and Analgesic Activity of 5-Aryl-4-Heteroyl-3-Hydroxy-1-(2-Thiazolyl)-3-Pyrrolin-2-Ones and their Derivatives

The three-component reaction of methyl 2-heteroylpyruvates with aromatic aldehydes and 2-aminothiazole was used to synthesize 5-aryl-4-(2-heteroyl)-3-hydroxy-1-(2-thiazolyl)-3-pyrrolin-2-ones. The corresponding 3-amino derivatives were obtained from the synthesized compounds by nucleophilic substitution with o-aminophenol, m-phenylenediamine, hydroxylamine, and urea; the corresponding pyrrolo[3, 4]pyrazoles, with hydrazine hydrate and phenylhydrazine. The structures of the new compounds were established using IR, PMR, and mass spectra and qualitative reactions. The acute toxicity and analgesic activity of the synthesized compounds were studied.

A comparative study on mechanical and rheological properties of ternary rubber blends

Polymer blends lead to producing a new class of plastics, which may have better properties than being individual. In this study, the ternary blends of natural rubber (NR)/styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR)/nitrile rubber (NBR) were prepared via melt compounding, and then the physicomechanical properties of ternary NR/SBR/NBR blends were investigated. NR content was kept constant at 30 phr, while SBR and NBR fractions were varied simultaneously. The effect of the addition of 3 phr of ultrablend 4000 as compatibilizer on the compatibility of the rubber blends was studied. The results revealed that the use of the compatibilizer has significantly resulted in the clear stability of the scorch time and the optimum cure time of the blends. Tensile strength; stress at 100%, 200%, and 300% elongations; elongation at break %; compression strength; and compression set increase with the NBR content. There was a dramatic rise in the value of swelling ratio with the decrease of NBR. Moreover, the dynamic mechanical analysis showed some shifts in glass transition temperatures for blends to higher and lower temperatures as a function of the composition, which indicates the partial miscibility between the contributing components. Scanning electron microscopy of the tear fracture surfaces indicated that incorporation of NBR in the blends resulted in better adhesion of ternary blends and improved the tensile properties of ternary blends.

Simulation and experimental study of a new structural rubber seal for the roller-cone bit under high temperature

Seal element is an important component of roller-cone bit. In order to improve the sealing performance and service life of roller-cone bit under high temperature, a new seal structure with multi-segment arcs is designed and the structural parameters of this sealing ring are optimized by response surface method and finite element method. Firstly, the hydrogenated nitrile-butadiene rubber is used to improve the seal performance under high temperature, and the uniaxial, planar, and biaxial tensile experiments are carried out to study the constitutive model of this rubber. Then, a three-dimension transient thermo-mechanical coupling model is established. The comparison of sealing performance between the new structural seal and the traditional O-ring seal is implemented under high temperature through the proposed FEM and laboratory experiments. The results show that the new structural seal has lower contact pressure and Mises stress than the standard O-ring seal, and the service life of the former is almost twice of the later one. Additionally, a composite drill bit using the new structural seal is applied to a deep drilling. After servicing a certain time, it shows that the wearing capacity is very small. The results show that the new structure seal ring can adapt to high temperature environment and the optimization method is feasible.

Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization and molecular dynamics simulations using pyrroline and piperidine ring nitroxide radicals

The efficiency of Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) depends on the local dynamics modulating the dipolar coupling between the two interacting spins. By attaching nitroxide based spin labels to molecules and by measuring the H-1 DNP response of solvent water, information about the local hydration dynamics near the spin label can be obtained. However, there are two commonly used types of nitroxide ring structures; a pyrroline based and a piperidine based molecule. It is important to know when comparing different experiments, whether changes in DNP enhancements are due to changes in local hydration dynamics or because of the different spin label structures. In this study we investigate the key parameters affecting DNP signal enhancements for 3-carbamoyl-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-3-pyrrolin-1-oxyl, a 5-membered ring nitroxide radical, and for 4-oxo-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy, a 6-membered ring nitroxide radical. Using X-Band DNP, field cycling relaxometry, and molecular dynamics simulations, we conclude that the key parameters affecting the DNP amplitude of the H-1 signal of water to be equal when using either nitroxide. Bioprocessing optimization for efficient simultaneous removal of methylene blue and nickel by Gracilaria seaweed biomass

The pollution of water by heavy metal ions and dyes, particularly from industrial effluents, has become a global environmental issue. Therefore, the treatment of wastewater generated from different industrial wastes is essential to restore environmental quality. The efficiency of Gracilaria seaweed biomass as a sustainable biosorbent for simultaneous bioremoval of Ni2+ and methylene blue from aqueous solution was studied. Optimization of the biosorption process parameters was performed using face-centered central composite design (FCCCD). The highest bioremoval percentages of Ni2+ and methylene blue were 97.53% and 94.86%; respectively, obtained under optimum experimental conditions: 6 g/L Gracilaria biomass, initial pH 8, 20 mg/L of methylene blue, 150 mg/L of Ni2+ and 180 min of contact time. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra demonstrated the presence of methyl, alkynes, amide, phenolic, carbonyl, nitrile and phosphate groups which are important binding sites involved in Ni2+ and methylene blue biosorption process. SEM analysis reveals the appearance of shiny large particles and layers on the biosorbent surface after biosorption that are absent before the biosorption process. In conclusion, it is demonstrated that the Gracilaria seaweed biomass is a promising, biodegradable, ecofriendly, cost-effective and efficient biosorbent for simultaneous bioremoval of Ni2+ and methylene blue from wastewater effluents.

Understanding the Mechanism between Antisolvent Dripping and Additive Doping Strategies on the Passivation Effects in Perovskite Solar Cells

Perovskite polycrystalline films contain numerous intrinsic and interfacial defects ascribed to the solution preparation process, which are harmful to both the photovoltaic performance and the stability of perovskite solar cells (PVSCs). Although various passivators have been proved to be promising materials for passivating perovskite films, there is still a lack of deeper understanding of the effectiveness of the different passivation methods. Here, the mechanism between antisolvent dripping and additive doping strategies on the passivation effects in PVSCs is systematically investigated with a nonfullerene small molecule (F8IC). Such a passivated effect of F8IC is realized via coordination interactions between the carbonyl (C=O) and nitrile (C-N) groups of F8IC with Pb2+ ion of MAPbI(3). Interestingly, F8IC antisolvent dripping can effectively passivate the surface defects and thus inhibit the nonradiative charge recombination on the upper part of the perovskite layer, whereas F8IC additive doping significantly reduces the surface and bulk defects and produces a compact perovskite film with denser crystal grains, thus facilitating charge transmission and extraction. Therefore, these benefits are translated into significant improvements in the short-circuit current density (J(sc)) to 21.86 mA cm(-2) and a champion power conversion efficiency of 18.40%. The selection of an optimal passivation strategy should also be considered according to the energy level matching between the passivators and the perovskite. The large energetic disparity is unsuitable for additive doping, whereas it is expected in antisolvent dripping.

The effects of fiber silane modification on the mechanical performance of chopped basalt fiber/ABS composites

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of silane coupling agent modifications on the mechanical performance of the basalt fiber (BF)-reinforced acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) composites. Three different silane coupling agents were used. The mechanical properties of the composites were determined by the tensile, flexural, impact tests, and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). According to the test results, the tensile strength increased with the use of (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (AP) and 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propylmethacrylate (MA), while the use of (3-glycidyloxypropyl) trimethoxysilane (GP) reduced the tensile strength. All the silane modifications improved the flexural strength and modulus and the highest improvement was achieved with the use of AP. No remarkable difference was observed in impact properties with the use of silane coupling agents. The addition of BF significantly improved the elastic modulus of the ABS regardless of the modification type, while the further improvements were achieved through the use of AP and MA. In brief, AP showed the highest performance among the studied silane coupling agents due to the covalent bond formation between the amino group of AP and the nitrile group of styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN) matrix.

Pulsed electron-electron double-resonance (PELDOR) measurements are presented from the potassium ion channel KcsA both solubilized in detergent and reconstituted in lipids. Site-directed spin-labeling using (1-oxyl-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-3-pyrrolin-3-yl)methyl methanethiosulfonate was performed with a R64C mutant of the protein. The orientations of the spin-labels in the tetramer were determined by PELDOR experiments performed at two magnetic field strengths (0.3 T/X-band and 1.2 T/Q-band) and variable probe frequency. Quantitative simulation of the PELDOR data supports a strongly restricted nitroxide, oriented at an angle of 65 degrees relative to the central channel axis. In general, poorer quality PELDOR data were obtained from membrane-reconstituted preparations compared to soluble proteins or detergent-solubilized samples. One reason for this is the reduced transverse spin relaxation time T-2 of nitroxides due to crowding of tetramers within the membrane that occurs even at low protein to lipid ratios. This reduced T-2 can be overcome by reconstituting mixtures of unlabeled and labeled proteins, yielding high-quality PELDOR data. Identical PELDOR oscillation frequencies and their dependencies on the probe frequency were observed in the detergent and membrane-reconstituted preparations, indicating that the position and orientation of the spin-labels are the same in both environments.
