A one-step synthesis of 5-alkoxypyrrole-3-phosphonates is presented starting from suitable alpha-cyanomethyl-beta-ketophosphonates. The key step in the synthesis involves a one-pot addition and heteroannulation sequence. The zinc perchlorate-catalyzed addition of alcohols to the nitrile carbon of alpha-cyanomethyl- beta-ketophosphonates followed by annulation furnished 5-alkoxypyrrole-3-phosphonates. The addition-annulation process is carried out in the presence of water and 4,5-dihydro-5-oxo-1H-pyrrole-3-phosphonates (pyrrolinones) are obtained in good yields. (C) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Comparative study of fluxional processes at two different classes of eight-coordinate rhenium(V) polyhydride complexes

Two different structural types of dodecahedral rhenium(V) tetrahydride complexes were identified as capable of providing insight into a pseudorotational exchange of ligands at such complexes. One type of complex afforded an inequivalent set of NMR-active phosphorus atoms that occupy B sites in the rhenium coordination sphere along with four hydride ligands in the dodecahedral A sites. A second type of complex afforded the potential to inhibit the pseudorotational exchange of ligands at such complexes due to the presence of a chelating bidentate ligand. A pair of each type of complexes were studied by variable temperature NMR measurements and simulation of those measurements. The first type of complex exhibited pseudorotation of both the A site hydride ligands and the B site triphenylphosphine ligands. The first type of complexes also exhibited a pairwise exchange of the two inequivalent hydride ligands on the complexes. The second type of complex did not exhibit pseudorotational exchange of the A site hydride ligands, presumably due to the chelating bidentate ligand bound to rhenium. Instead, the A site hydride ligands of the second type of complex exhibited only exchange with the single B site hydride ligand through either a pairwise or a turnstile type of mechanism. Neither type of complex exhibited any direct intermolecular exchange of protons from the hydride ligand set with adventitious water from the solvent matrix. The value of Delta G(240)(double dagger) for each of the identified fluxional processes was close to 12 kcal/mol. The values of Delta S-double dagger for each fluxional process suggest that none of the processes are dissociative in nature.

Road performance of liquid nitrile-butadiene rubber modified unsaturated polyester resin concrete

Unsaturated polyester resin concrete (UPC) is currently gaining attention in many fields due to its functional compressive capacity and corrosion resistance. However, the toughness of UPC is poor due to the weak resistance to the deformation of the cured unsaturated polyester resin (UP). In this paper, the UP was modified with liquid nitrile-butadiene rubber (LNBR) and further used to make concrete. At the same time, two different initiators were used to cure the UPC and LNBR modified UPC. To study the mechanism and road performance of LNBR modified UPC performance, optical microscopy test, Marshall test, water immersion Marshall test, rutting test, freeze-thaw split test, and infrared spectroscopy experiments were carried out. Test results showed that LNBR could effectively improve the low-temperature toughness of UPC. Although LNBR slightly reduced the Marshall stability and rutting resistance of UPC, it hardly changed the water stability of the UPC. LNBR could crosslink with UP to form a joint body, and the amount of initiator may have a more significant impact on the performance of the UPC and LNBR modified UPC. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. A novel stereoselective tin-free radical protocol for the enantioselective synthesis of pyrrolidinones and its application to the synthesis of biologically active GABA-derivatives

Sequential activation of a-bonds : Intermolecular cascade annulation with migration and remote functionalization

We demonstrate a new catalytic property of the lanthanide compound CeCl3 center dot 7H(2)O which sequentially activates N-H, sp(2) C-H and sp(3) C-H sigma-bonds at ambient temperature. The powerful catalyst enables selective C-C and C-N bond-forming intermolecular cascade annulation between enamines and diary1-1,2-diketone to afford functionalized 3,3-diaryl-3-pyrrolin-2-ones involving migration of an aromatic ring. We have also initiated a new multicomponent strategy utilizing readily available and inexpensive precursors and environmentally benign CeCl3 center dot 7H(2)O as an efficient catalyst under benign reaction conditions towards direct synthesis of several N-heterocycles including pentasubstituted 2-pyrrolinones and pyrroles. These observations provide new prospects and perspectives in sigma-bond activation process for easy access to functional molecules.
