Design and characterisation of vitrimer-like elastomeric composites from HXNBR rubber

The present study aims at the incorporation of vitrimer-like properties into elastomeric composites as a promising approach towards the sustainable production of rubber-based materials. In particular, hydrogenated carboxylated nitrile butadiene rubber (HXNBR), as a technically relevant high-performance rubber, is covalently cross-linked with epoxy group-functionalised calcium silicate (Esilicate) across its pending carboxylic acid moieties. Reaction with the reactive functions attached on the filler surface results in the formation of b-hydroxyl ester linkages at the HXNBR-Esilicate interface, which undergo thermo-activated transesterifications in the presence of a suitable catalyst. Preparation of Amorphous Poly(aryl ether nitrile ketone) and Its Composites with Nano Hydroxyapatite for 3D Artificial Bone Printing

PEEK had been used to fabricate artificial bones by 3D printing widely, but it expressed unsatisfactory interlayer performance of 3D printing and weak compatibility with nano hydroxyapatite(nHA) due to the limits of molecular structures. Here an amorphous poly(aryl ether ketone) for 3D bone printing, PEK-CN, was designed and synthesized via nucleophilic substitution from 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone, phenolphthalein and 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile, which possessed much stronger interlayer strength due to van der Waals force between polar groups(-CNs). Specifically, the stronger interlayer strength resulted in lower porosity(3% with 100% infill rate) and more comparable mechanical properties(the maximum tensile strength was similar to 110 MPa) to cortical bone. Importantly, PEK-CN had passed in vitro cytotoxicity testing and samples of human mandible and maxillary bones based on PEKCN were printed by fused deposition modeling(FDM) successfully. Moreover, PEK-CN/nHA composites were obtained to enhance bioactivity of resin, and PEK-CN without limits of crystal lattices expressed excellent compatibility with nano hydroxyapatite. Our work provided a high performance resin for 3D bone printing, which would bring better solutions for artificial bone materials.

Flow Cytometric Analysis of the Influence of Myosmine on the Cell Cycle

Myosmine (3-(1-pyrrolin-2-yl)pyridine) is an alkaloid found in tobacco as well as various staple foods, fruits and vegetables. Myosmine has recently been suspected to be a tobacco-independent carcinogenic source. Using cell flow cytometry, we have examined the influence of myosmine on the cell cycle of murine erythroleukemia (MEL) cells in vitro and have compared this with its effects on murine bone marrow cells in vivo. Myosmine at low concentrations inhibited cell proliferation dose dependently; while at concentrations close to 300 mu mol dm(-3) it acted in a cytostatic fashion, that is, it increased the percentage of cells in the S and G2/M phases. At doses of 350-400 mu mol dm(-3) myosmine induced apoptosis and the hypoploid fraction. In vivo intraperitoneal injection of mice with 100 mg/kg of myosmine resulted in a statistically significant increase in the percentage of cells in S phase; i.e. from 13.75 to 18.22%. The percentage of bone marrow cells in the G2/M phase increased from 6.79 to 8.93 % in treated mice compared to controls. All of these results are in agreement with the hypothesis that myosmine possesses genotoxic potential. (doi: 10.5562/cca1767)

The domino sequence of pseudocyclic reactions involving 4-methoxybenzonitrile N-oxide and trans-2-phenyl-1-cyano-1-nitroethene proceeding in mild (r.t.; atm. pressure) non-catalytic (without participation of palladium or other transition metals (TM)) conditions yielded a bis-heterobiarylic molecular system containing an oxadiazole moiety with an almost 40% yield. The presented methodology represents therefore an evident contrast to the existing methods of preparation of bis-heterobiarylic systems, which require the presence of TMs. This reaction should be considered stereochemically clean and contains a stage of cycloaddition to the C=N bond. It should be underlined that this is the first case of non-catalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition involving the nitrile C=N bond. Our comprehensive study shows that the described protocol can be applied as a general methodology for preparation of a wide group of bis-heterobiarylic molecules. The self-adjusted cascade of transformations, which is unique and valuable from the practical point of view, leads to formation of a single isomeric product (from many possible) as a consequence of three pseudocyclic tandem reactions performed in agreement with the fundamental principles of green chemistry and sustainable development with a maximal level of atom economy and good overall yields. A self-adjustment phenomenon observed in the studied smart technology leading to production of a material with special properties was explained by it deep quantum nature confirmed undoubtedly by the modern Molecular Electron Density Theory.
