Palladium-catalyzed tandem reaction of epoxynitriles with arylboronic acids in aqueous medium: divergent synthesis of furans and pyrroles

Tribological behaviors of the water-lubricated rubber bearings under different lubricated conditions

Purpose – This study aims to evaluate the tribological behavior of water-lubricated rubber bearings sliding against stainless steel under different lubricate conditions. Design/methodology/approach – The water-lubricated rubber bearings under various normal loads and sliding speeds were carried out on the ring-block friction test, and the wear morphology is test conducted by using scanning electron microscope. Findings – The results indicate that the surface of water-lubricated rubber bearings has a more alternative friction coefficient and wear rate under seawater than other lubricate conditions. The seawater not only acts as a lubricating medium but also brings microstructure while corroding the rubber interface, thereby further enhancing the lubricating effect and storing abrasive debris. Originality/value – In this paper, tribological properties of the water-lubricated rubber bearing on ring-block friction test has been investigated. Water-lubricated rubber bearing was carried out on various lubricate conditions, and the friction coefficient, wear rate and worn surface were analyzed. Sequential activation of a-bonds : Intermolecular cascade annulation with migration and remote functionalization

We demonstrate a new catalytic property of the lanthanide compound CeCl3 center dot 7H(2)O which sequentially activates N-H, sp(2) C-H and sp(3) C-H sigma-bonds at ambient temperature. The powerful catalyst enables selective C-C and C-N bond-forming intermolecular cascade annulation between enamines and diary1-1,2-diketone to afford functionalized 3,3-diaryl-3-pyrrolin-2-ones involving migration of an aromatic ring. We have also initiated a new multicomponent strategy utilizing readily available and inexpensive precursors and environmentally benign CeCl3 center dot 7H(2)O as an efficient catalyst under benign reaction conditions towards direct synthesis of several N-heterocycles including pentasubstituted 2-pyrrolinones and pyrroles. These observations provide new prospects and perspectives in sigma-bond activation process for easy access to functional molecules.

P5CS expression level and proline accumulation in the sensitive and tolerant wheat cultivars under control and drought stress conditions in the presence/absence of silicon and salicylic acid

The effects of silicon (Si) and salicylic acid (SA) applications on proline content and expression of (1)-pyrrolin-5-carboxylate synthetase (P5CS) were examined under different drought levels and different drought exposure times. Two wheat cultivars, a drought tolerant and a drought sensitive were used. The experiment was a factorial based on completely randomized design with three replicates. Expression analysis by the quantitative real time PCR showed that the tolerant cultivar had significantly higher P5CS expressions compared to the sensitive one under drought stress. In sampling time points, the maximum level of mRNA was observed at 48h after stress was applied. At 48h after stress induction, the expression of P5CS was almost 3.1 fold higher in the tolerant cultivar compared to the sensitive one. In both cultivars, gene expression decreased from 48 to 72h. The stressed plants treated with Si+SA showed a higher expression. Proline content started to increase by Si and SA treatments and the maximum proline content was obtained at simultaneous application of Si+SA. Drought stress significantly reduced chlorophyll content, relative water content and leaf water potential of both cultivars, while increased electrolyte leakage (EL) of the leaves. In contrast, foliar-applied Si and SA significantly increased these parameters and reduced EL, and the effect of simultaneous application of Si and SA was greater. The results suggest that the P5CS is a stress inducible gene. This gene has the potential to be used for improvement of drought stress tolerance in wheat. Network analysis highlighted positive interaction of osmotic stress, drought and cold stress on P5CS1 and the regulatory role of MYB2, ERF-1, and EIN3 transcription factors. In conclusion, alleviation of drought stress by application of Si and SA was associated partially with enhanced expression of P5CS gene and following proline accumulation.
