Half-Sandwich Iridium Complexes for the One-Pot Synthesis of Amides: Preparation, Structure, and Diverse Catalytic Activity

Several types of air-stable N,O-coordinate half-sandwich iridium complexes containing Schiff base ligands with the general formula [Cp*IrClL] were synthesized in good yields. These stable iridium complexes displayed a good catalytic efficiency in amide synthesis. Ethanol amine functionalized electrospun nanofibers membrane for the treatment of dyes polluted wastewater

This study investigated adsorption kinetics, adsorption equilibrium, and adsorption isotherm of three dyes [i.e., methylene blue (MB), rhodamine-B (RB), and safranin T (ST)] onto polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and ethanolamine (EA) grafted PAN nanofibers (NFs) membranes (EA-g-PAN). The membranes were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET). FE-SEM showed a smooth morphology for the NFs before and after grafting, while FT-IR confirmed EA grafting into the nitrile group of PAN. The grafting percentage with no change in the physical nature of the membrane was 12.18%. The nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms for PAN and EA-g-PAN NFs membranes were similar and classified as a Type IV according to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. The surface area, pore-volume, and pore size of the EA-g-PAN increased to 21.36 m(2) g(-1), 0.16 cm(3) g(-1), and 304.93 angstrom, respectively. The pores were cylindrical mesopores with bimodal openings, which means that pores were open at both ends. The adsorption of the MB, RB, and ST dyes onto the PAN and EA-g-PAN NFs membranes leveled off at similar to 60 min. The adsorption kinetics showed good fitting to pseudo-second-order kinetic model and multi-step diffusion process. The order of the dye adsorption was PAN < EA-g-PAN. The data were fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich models. The correlation coefficient (r(2)) for Langmuir ranged from 0.940 to 0.995, whereas that for Freundlich ranged from 0.941 to 0.998. After adsorption, FTIR only showed hydrogen bonding between the dyes and the membrane. The reusability experiments showed max desorption for MB (94%), RB (92%), and ST (85%). Fabrication, characterization, dielectric properties, thermal stability, flame retardancy and transport behavior of chlorinated nitrile rubber/hydroxyapatite nanocomposites

This work focused on the preparation of chlorinated nitrile rubber (Cl-NBR)/hydroxyapatite (HA) nanocomposites by an open two-roll mixing mill. The formation of nanocomposites was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The dielectric properties and flame retardancy of polymer nanocomposites were analyzed with special attention to the loading of HA nanoparticles. Diffusion and permeation properties of petroleum solvents through the prepared Cl-NBR/HA composites were also investigated in detail as a function of filler content, different temperatures and nature of solvent. The incorporation of HA in Cl-NBR has been endorsed by FTIR analysis. The XRD showed the crystalline peaks of HA in the polymer chain. SEM images revealed that the nanoparticles were uniformed distributed in the polymer network with spherically shaped particles. TGA results indicated that the thermal stability of nanocomposites was remarkably higher than the pure Cl-NBR and the thermal stability increases with the loading of nanoparticles. The dielectric study observed a decreasing dielectric constant with increasing frequency, and the maximum property was obtained for 7 phr HA filling in Cl-NBR. The flame resistance of the polymer composites was greatly enhanced by the incorporation of nanoparticles. The diffusion, sorption and permeation constants were found to decreased with increase in HA content. The solvent uptake decreases with the size of the penetrant molecules, and the mechanism of transport of Cl-NBR composite was anomalous in nature. The enthalpy and entropy changes of the nanocomposites were analyzed from the diffusion data. The composite containing 7 phr HA sample showed higher dielectric properties and better solvent resistance properties.

Comparative study of fluxional processes at two different classes of eight-coordinate rhenium(V) polyhydride complexes

Two different structural types of dodecahedral rhenium(V) tetrahydride complexes were identified as capable of providing insight into a pseudorotational exchange of ligands at such complexes. One type of complex afforded an inequivalent set of NMR-active phosphorus atoms that occupy B sites in the rhenium coordination sphere along with four hydride ligands in the dodecahedral A sites. A second type of complex afforded the potential to inhibit the pseudorotational exchange of ligands at such complexes due to the presence of a chelating bidentate ligand. A pair of each type of complexes were studied by variable temperature NMR measurements and simulation of those measurements. The first type of complex exhibited pseudorotation of both the A site hydride ligands and the B site triphenylphosphine ligands. The first type of complexes also exhibited a pairwise exchange of the two inequivalent hydride ligands on the complexes. The second type of complex did not exhibit pseudorotational exchange of the A site hydride ligands, presumably due to the chelating bidentate ligand bound to rhenium. Instead, the A site hydride ligands of the second type of complex exhibited only exchange with the single B site hydride ligand through either a pairwise or a turnstile type of mechanism. Neither type of complex exhibited any direct intermolecular exchange of protons from the hydride ligand set with adventitious water from the solvent matrix. The value of Delta G(240)(double dagger) for each of the identified fluxional processes was close to 12 kcal/mol. The values of Delta S-double dagger for each fluxional process suggest that none of the processes are dissociative in nature.

Mapping Io’s Surface Composition With Juno/JIRAM

The surface composition of Io is dominated by SO2 frost, plus other chemical species identified or proposed over the past decades by combining Earth-based and space-based observations with laboratory data. Here we discuss spectroscopic data sets of Io obtained by the Jovian InfraRed Auroral Mapper (JIRAM) spectro-imager onboard Juno in nine orbits, spanning a 3-year period. We display average spectral profiles of Io in the 2-5 mu m range, and we use band depths derived from those profiles to map the geographic distribution of SO2 frost and other spectral features. This data set allows for an similar to 22% surface coverage at 58 to 162 km/px and in a broad range of latitudes. Our results confirm the broadly regional SO2-frost trends already highlighted by Galileo/NIMS. Io’s average spectral profiles as well as the mapping of the 4.47-mu m band also confirm that SO2 exists in the (SOO)-S-32-O-16-O-18 isotopic form. Surprisingly, the mapping performed by JIRAM shows that the absorption band at 2.1 mu m is unrelated to SO2 frost, while we map for the first time the depth of the 2.65-mu m band, highlighting regions enriched in this absorber, possibly H2S. JIRAM data confirm that the 3.92-mu m band, likely due to Cl2SO2, is largely related to the SO2 distribution. The correlation between Cl2SO2 and ClSO2, possibly revealed at 4.62 mu m, is not equally clear. The simultaneous presence of two very weak spectral features at 4.55 and 4.62 mu m suggests that nitrile compounds or tholins may also be present on the surface. Catalytic carbon-nitrogen bond formation was achieved by iron carbonyls in the [4 + 1] cycloaddition of allenyl imines with CO. The Fe(CO)(5) photochemically catalyzed reaction of allenyl imines and CO gives preparatively useful yields of 3-alkylidene-4-pyrrolin-2-ones. These reactions take place under mild conditions and only require fluorescent light! Good control of alkylidene bond stereochemistry is achieved when the terminal allene groups are tert-butyl and methyl. Experiments in the dark show that stoichiometric Fe-2(CO)(9) can mediate [4 + 1] assembly by a purely thermal reaction to give good yields of the pyrrolinone products. These new methods for the construction of 3-alkylidene-4-pyrrolin-2-ones are complimentary to existing procedures and allow for a greater variety of alkylidene substituents.
