Vacuum-Ultraviolet Absorption Spectrum of 3-Methoxyacrylonitrile

The high-resolution absorption spectrum of 3-methoxyacrylonitrile (3MAN) was measured between 5.27 and 12.59 eV using a synchrotron-based Fourier-transform spectrometer. It was related to an absolute absorption cross-section scale. Complementary calculations at the DFT-MRCl/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory document the vertical transition energies and oscillator strengths toward the first 19 states of both the E and Z geometrical isomers of 3MAN. Comparisons with the experimental absorption spectrum reveal the similarities and differences between 3MAN, a bifunctional molecule, with acrylonitrile and methyl-vinylether, where only one functional group is present. As in acrylonitrile, several broad valence transitions were observed up to the ionization limit. They are likely associated with the extended pi-system induced by the nitrile group but might also involve sigma sigma* transitions close to the ionization limit. As in methylvinylether, Rydberg series converging to the ionization limit are absent. This is attributed to a difference in neutral and cationic geometry due to a 60 degrees rotation of the methyl group.

Design and characterisation of vitrimer-like elastomeric composites from HXNBR rubber

Comparison with an unfilled reference network reveals that the extent of stress relaxation can be mostly maintained upon the addition of the reactive filler even at large quantities. Because of the higher signal bandwidth, lower resonator Q is needed for rapid scan than for CW, so the rapid scan method is advantageous for lossy samples that inherently lower resonator Q. Thiol-functionalized PIM-1 for removal and sensing for mercury (II)

Polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) are a class of microporous polymers with rigid and contorted molecular structures. The special structures lead to incomplete space occupation, and the pores of PIMs originate from the formed void. In this work, we made attempts to expand the applications of PIMs to the aspect of heavy metal removal. First, PIM-1 was synthesized using tetrafluoroterephthalonitrile (TFTPN) and 5,5′,6,6′-tetrahydroxy-3,3,3′,3′-tetramethyl-1,1′-spirobisindane (TTSBI) as precursors. The primary PIM-1 was quite hydrophobic, and thus could not be evenly dispersed in water, resulting in low adsorption capacity for mercury ions (Hg2+). A conversion of nitrile group in PIM-1 to thiol group was then carried out by two steps, namely carboxylation and introduction of thiol groups. The carboxylation made the polymers more active, and the final thiol-functionalization provided the polymers with hydrophilicity and affinity for Hg2+. The thiolethyl modified PIM-1 (assigned as PIM-G) and thiophenyl modified (assigned as PIM-B) possessed maximum Hg2+ adsorption capacity of 136 mg g(-1) and 127 mg g(-1) at pH 5, respectively. Besides, the thiol-functionalized PIMs had fluorescence property and showed potential in sensing for Hg2+.

Polymerized zinc dimethacrylate tends to form different types of chemical and physical linkages within the rubber matrices. As the amount of dimethacrylate ranged from 10 to 50 phr, the conversion of zinc dimethacrylate remained low. Residual zinc dimethacrylate formed micro-dispersion in the rubber matrix. From the analysis of the signal intensity-time curves (i.e. rehydration curves) it was observed that the two kinds having different genetic roots (Bezostaya, Kunduru) exhibit similar saturation behaviour whereas Gerek saturates much more easily. The rehydration curves for naturally aged seeds indicates that aging causes rapid saturation and an important decrease in the signal intensity. In order to get better insight on the effect of the signals from polar and nonpolar regions on the experimental spectra, these spectra were simulated by the use of the theoretical models developed.
