Polytriphenylamine Derivative and Carbon Nanotubes as Cathode Materials for High-Performance Polymer-Based Batteries

Composites of polytriphenylamine (PTPA), its novel derivative poly(4-carbamoyl-N,N-diphenylaniline-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-pyrrolin-1-oxyl) (PTPA-PO), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were synthesized by in situ polymerization. The characterization results showed that the CNTs were homogeneously distributed in the polymer matrix and formed a cross-linked conductive network. The electrical properties of PTPA/CNT composites were better than those of traditional acetylene black as conductive agents. Electrochemical tests showed that the initial specific discharge capacity of the PTPA/CNT composites was 107.6 mAh g(-1 )(theoretical capacity of PTPA is 109 mAh g(-1)). Furthermore, further research to increase the specific capacity demonstrated that the as-synthesized polytriphenylamine derivative, PTPA-PO, with a CNT cathode presented two well-defined plateaus and an enhanced discharge capacity of 139.3 mAh g(-1). Additionally, the PTPA-PO/CNT electrode showed superior cycling performance and remained above 90% of the initial capacity after 100 cycles. The enhanced electrochemical performance of PTPA-PO was due to its combination of the conducting polymer PTPA and free radical active site pendant PO, which increased its electrochemical reaction rate, and this composite is a promising material for high-performance polymer-based organic batteries.

The synthesis and cholinesterase inhibitory activities of solasodine analogues with seven-membered F ring

Solasodine analogues containing a seven-membered F ring with a nitrogen atom placed at position 22a were prepared from diosgenin or tigogenin in a four-step synthesis comprising of the simultaneous opening of the F-ring and introduction of cyanide in position 22 alpha, activation of the 26-hydroxyl group as mesylate, nitrile reduction, and N-cyclization. Solasodine, six obtained 22a(N)-homo analogues, as well as four 26a-homosolasodine derivatives and their open-chain precursors (13 in total) were tested as potential inhibitors of acetyland butyryl-cholinesterases and showed activity at micromolar concentrations. The structure-activity relationship study revealed that activities against studied esterases are affected by the structure of E/F rings and the substitution pattern of ring A. The most potent compound 8 acted as non-competitive inhibitors and exerted IC50 = 8.51 mu M and 7.05 mu M for eeAChE and eqBChE, respectively. Molecular docking studies revealed the hydrogen bond interaction of 8 with S293 of AChE; further rings are stabilized via hydrophobic interaction (ring A) or interaction with Y341 and W286 (rings B and C). Biological experiments showed no neurotoxicity of differentiated SH-SY5Y cells. More importantly, results from neuroprotective assay based on glutamate-induced cytotoxicity revealed that most derivatives had the ability to increase the viability of differentiated SH-SY5Y cells in comparison to galantamine and lipoic acid assayed as standards. The newly synthesized solasodine analogues are able to inhibit and to bind cholinesterases in noncompetitive mode of inhibition and exhibited neuroprotection potential of differentiated neuroblastoma cells after Glu-induced toxicity.

These oxaziridines were resistant to ring opening by acid hydrolysis, photolysis and thermolysis.

Hydroxyapatite as a Potential Nanofiller in Technologically Useful Chlorinated Acrylonitrile Butadiene Rubber

This paper investigates the effect of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HA) on the cure characteristics, tensile and tear strength, elongation at break, hardness, abrasion resistance, heat build-up, resilience, glass transition temperature, oil resistance, alternating current (AC) conductivity and transport properties of chlorinated nitrile rubber (Cl-NBR). The maximum and minimum torque values were increased whereas the cure time values were decreased with the HA content in the Cl-NBR. The uniform dispersion of HA in Cl-NBR was obtained from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed the increased glass transition temperature of Cl-NBR with the addition of HA particles. Mechanical properties, conductivity and oil resistance of the composites were greatly increased with the loading of hydroxyapatite. Diffusion results were explained in terms of the loading of nanoparticles and size of the penetrant molecules. Arrhenius and thermodynamic parameters for the diffusion process have been estimated and an anomalous diffusion mechanism was observed.

Hirshfeld surface and two-dimensional fingerprint plot analyses have been performed to study the nature of intermolecular interactions within the crystal structure. The ultraviolet-visible spectrum, global chemical reactivity descriptors, the highest occupied molecular orbital and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energies in acetonitrile solvent have performed by Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory approach. The molecular electrostatic potential used to predict the reactive sites indicates that the nitrogen atom of the nitrile group is prone to electrophilic attack, and the hydrogen atoms belonging to the amino group to nucleophilic attack. The first-order hyperpolarizability value indicates that the title compound is a useful claimant as non-linear optical material studies. The reduced density gradient function based on electron density provides a simple, clear, and practical method to research non-covalent interactions was investigated. Molecular docking studies of the title compound have been performed, which suggests that the title molecule may act as a potential anticancer agent.
