Morphology evolution, mechanical properties, Mullins effect, and its reversibility of polylactide/nitrile butadiene rubber thermoplastic vulcanizates plasticized by dioctyl phthalate

Thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) based on polylactide (PLA)/nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) blends were prepared by dynamic vulcanization where the PLA phase was plasticized by dioctyl phthalate (DOP), and the influence of DOP dosage on mechanical properties, morphology evolution, Mullins effect, and its reversibility were investigated systematically. The experimental results indicated that the mechanical properties of PLA/NBR TPVs were improved significantly with the addition of DOP. Compared with that of the PLA/NBR TPVs, the Shore A hardness was decreased obviously, while the elongation at break was increased slightly with increasing DOP dosage. Mullins effect results showed that the TPVs incorporated with DOP had the relatively lower stress-softening effect. The recovery ability of the maximum stress could be remarkably enhanced by increasing heat treatment temperature. Morphology studies showed that the network microstructure of the co-continuous phases was denser with the increasing dynamic vulcanization time; however, the network microstructure of the co-continuous was changed slightly with the addition of DOP.

Road performance of liquid nitrile-butadiene rubber modified unsaturated polyester resin concrete

Unsaturated polyester resin concrete (UPC) is currently gaining attention in many fields due to its functional compressive capacity and corrosion resistance. However, the toughness of UPC is poor due to the weak resistance to the deformation of the cured unsaturated polyester resin (UP). In this paper, the UP was modified with liquid nitrile-butadiene rubber (LNBR) and further used to make concrete. At the same time, two different initiators were used to cure the UPC and LNBR modified UPC. To study the mechanism and road performance of LNBR modified UPC performance, optical microscopy test, Marshall test, water immersion Marshall test, rutting test, freeze-thaw split test, and infrared spectroscopy experiments were carried out. Test results showed that LNBR could effectively improve the low-temperature toughness of UPC. Although LNBR slightly reduced the Marshall stability and rutting resistance of UPC, it hardly changed the water stability of the UPC. LNBR could crosslink with UP to form a joint body, and the amount of initiator may have a more significant impact on the performance of the UPC and LNBR modified UPC. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. The wavenumber position of nu(N-O-center dot) was found to occur in the range 1450-1420cm(-1) for 5-membered cyclic nitroxides and 1395-1340 cm(-1) for 6-membered cyclic and acyclic nitroxides. In nitronyl nitroxides, the symmetric stretching vibration occurs in the region 1470cm(-1), but coupling to other modes makes specific band assignments problematic for the nitronyl nitroxide group. In these biotransformations, the Oxd enzymes catalyze the dehydration of aldoximes as readily available substrates to the nitrile products. Herein, these developments with such enzymes are summarized, with a strong focus on synthetic applications. It is demonstrated that this biocatalytic technology has the potential to cross the bridge between the production of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals, on one hand, and bulk and commodity chemicals, on the other.

MODULATING ACTION OF VITAMIN C ON THE CYTOTOXIC EFFECT OF MYOSMINE

Myosmine (3-(1-pyrrolin-2-yl)pyridine) is an alkaloid found in tobacco as well as in various foods, fruits and vegetables. Myosmine has recently been suspected to be a tobacco-independent carcinogenic source connected to the increase in incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma. It has been shown that reactions of nitrosation and peroxidation of myosmine take part in its metabolic activation and leads to the formation of the esophageal carcinogens N’-nitrosonornicotine and 4-hydroxy-1-(3-pyridy1)-1-butanone. Increased cancerogenic potential of myosmine may be expected when the oxidative stress in the cell is enhanced. In order to examine the relationship between the oxidative status of the cells and the inhibitory action of myosmine on the cell growth we studied the combined effect of the antioxidant vitamin C and myosmine on cell proliferation as well as on the cell cycle of murine erythroleukemia (MEL) cells. Protective effect of vitamin C was found at incubation time of 48 hours. It was clearly observed that vitamin C had reduced the toxicity of myosmine in a wide range of concentrations. In order to see how cell cycle is affected in the presence of vitamin C and myosmine we conducted flow cytometric analysis. A combination of vitamin C with 100 mu M myosmine resulted in elimination of the effect of myosmine, respectively the histogram was almost identical to that of the control untreated cells. This result showed that the antioxidant had reduced the influence of myosmine on the cell cycle of MEL. At higher myosmine concentration (200 mu M) the addition of vitamin C reduced the amount of hypoploid cells almost in half. This could be connected with the smaller fraction of apoptotic cells. The conclusion can be drawn that vitamin C may protect cells from the cytotoxic effect of myosmine.
