Complexes 1-3 ([Ag-2(CF3COO)2(1,4-dcb)(S)]center dot 2ofbp center dot H2O, 1, S=benzene, 2, S=toluene 3, S= m-xylene) were synthesized by the same linear spacer (1,4-dcb) in different solvents, and they exhibit similar 2D networks assembled by 1,4-dcb ligand bridging with 1D chains composing of anions and different coordinating solvents. Complex 4 ([Ag-2(CF3COO)(2)(bpcn)(2)]center dot C6H6 center dot 2ofbp center dot H2O) was isolated by replacing 1,4-dcb to the longer linear spacer (bpcn) however it shows a quite different 1D chain structure from those of 1-3. Further changing ligand to p-phda resulted only compound c as a co-crystal of p-phda and of bp. These totally different crystal structures suggest the ligand-controlled self-assembly processes. The followed antimicrobial assay results demonstrate that all complexes have effective antimicrobial activities with broad spectra. Computational exploration of the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of 7-isopropylidenebenzonorbornadiene with nitrile oxide and cyclic nitrone derivatives

The synthesis of isoxazolidine and isoxazole derivatives, versatile building blocks for the construction of a wide range of complex heterocyclic architectures in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry, is efficiently achieved via the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction (1,3-DC). Herein, we report an extensive theoretical study on the peri-, regio-, stereo, and enantio-selectivities of 1,3-DC of 7-isopropylidenebenzonorbornadiene with nitrile oxide and cyclic nitrone derivatives using density functional theory calculations. Acetophenone-substituted nitrile oxide periselectively adds across the endocyclic olefinic bond of the dipolarophile to furnish the exo-cycloadduct as the major product, a reaction that has a rate constant of 1.88 x 10(9) s(-1). The endo approach of this periselective path is the closest competing pathway with a rate constant of 4.59 x 10(7) s(-1). Different substituents on the nitrile oxide do not affect the peri- and stereo-selectivity of the reaction. Diethyl ether solvation has no substantial effect on the energetic patterns observed in the gas phase computation. Also, we report a novel 1,3-DC between cyclic nitrone derivatives and 7-isopropylidenebenzonorbornadiene as an efficient way to generate isoxazolidine derivatives. Even though the reactions of the cyclic nitrone derivatives have slightly higher activation barriers than the acyclic nitrile oxide derivatives, the former is more enantioselective than the latter. Whereas electron-donating groups (EDGs) on the cyclic nitrone favor the formation of the exo-cycloadduct, electron-withdrawing groups (EWGs) favor the formation of the endo-cycloadduct. Both 1,3-dipoles add across the dipolarophile via a concerted asynchronous mechanism.

Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization and molecular dynamics simulations using pyrroline and piperidine ring nitroxide radicals

The efficiency of Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) depends on the local dynamics modulating the dipolar coupling between the two interacting spins. By attaching nitroxide based spin labels to molecules and by measuring the H-1 DNP response of solvent water, information about the local hydration dynamics near the spin label can be obtained. However, there are two commonly used types of nitroxide ring structures; a pyrroline based and a piperidine based molecule. It is important to know when comparing different experiments, whether changes in DNP enhancements are due to changes in local hydration dynamics or because of the different spin label structures. In this study we investigate the key parameters affecting DNP signal enhancements for 3-carbamoyl-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-3-pyrrolin-1-oxyl, a 5-membered ring nitroxide radical, and for 4-oxo-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy, a 6-membered ring nitroxide radical. Using X-Band DNP, field cycling relaxometry, and molecular dynamics simulations, we conclude that the key parameters affecting the DNP amplitude of the H-1 signal of water to be equal when using either nitroxide. With the miniaturization, integration, and functionalization of the electronic components, heat dissipation in the electronic devices has become a challenging issue. Owing to high polarity, carboxyl nitrile butadiene rubber (XNBR) is usually employed as a dielectric material in the electronic devices. However, low thermal conductivity of XNBR hardly satisfies the increasingly stricter demands for heat dissipation. Herein, we used low-cost poly (catechol/polyamine) (PCPA) to modify Al2O3 nanoparticles via biomimetic method for enhancing the interfacial interaction between the Al2O3 filler and XNBR. The ortho-polyphenols in catechol were oxidized into orthoquinone groups in the alkaline solution. Then, the ortho-quinone groups formed a cross-linked structure to obtain PCPA via the Michael addition or Schiff base reaction with amine. The process decreased the interfacial thermal resistance and phonon scattering, resulting in an enhanced thermal conductivity. When the Al2O3-PCPA nanoparticles content was 30 vol%, the thermal conductivity of XNBR based composites reached up to 0.51 W/ mK, which was 3.19 times that of pure XNBR (0.16 W/mK). The proposed method has potential applications in large scale production of thermally conductive composites in industries, such as electronic packaging materials and thermal management materials.
